This is for more ROI proven methods, such as Pay-Per-Click for web apps... a big thing to take away from this post wasn't how to manage "all" your money, but how to effectively manage money you've dedicated toward specific areas (such as marketing). Keep the questions coming!

Great post, Sean. I only have 1 question - doesn't this method involve a fair amount of risk? In essence, you're spending money you don't really have, so you should be sure to save SOME money (and not re-invest it all) so you'll at least be able to pay the bills if new clients don't come through.

The most effective advertising is the kind that your target market will see. If you are targeting a younger audience, facebook can be fairly effective. If you want an older and often more sophisticated audience, twitter could prove to be a good online tool when used consistently. If you are targeting a geographic region, make sure that your site is optimized for keywords in that region and consider initiating a PPC campaign with Google and the likes. It is most important to be where your customers are. Think vertically, and look for places to integrate your services or offer value to those upstream and downstream. Comment on their blogs, form alliances, and follow those who might be of interest. Much business is relationship-based, so look for opportunities to create, build, and maintain relationships and carry that through online.
